Together with the UWV we have created a concept where we teach unemployed how to work on opensource projects. We’re teaching them all basics about opensource, the community and technique. While working on opensource they are creating a portfolio to show potential employers, don’t have a gap within their CV, work on confidence and technical knowledge. Together with the students we look for an interesting opensource project to work on. We are starting with 25 interested in three weeks.
Compared to giving just courses, this concept is sustainable for a longer period and works on the part most unemployed are missing: confidence and being part of something.
Then opensource community is very broad, and could use translators, documenters, developers, testers and project managers. Jobseekers can participate in projects which have their interest.
